Marine Mechanic

Our client is looking for a Marine Mechanic to join the team. You will play a key role in maintaining and servicing our fleet, ensuring our customers enjoy a safe and reliable boating experience throughout the season.

This is a varied, hands-on position offering exposure to a wide range of marine engines and systems. You will work on industry-leading brands including Volvo Penta and Nanni engines, carrying out everything from routine maintenance to major winter servicing and repairs.

The Role

The work naturally changes throughout the year, providing plenty of variety:

During the boating season (April – October), your focus will be on:

• Routine servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Minor mechanical repairs.
• Belt replacements, engine checks and fault finding.
• Preparing boats for customer use and ensuring they remain in excellent working condition.

During the winter period (November – March), the role shifts towards:

• Major engine servicing.
• Larger mechanical repairs and overhauls.
• Winterisation and recommissioning of vessels.
• Diagnostic work and long-term maintenance projects.

What You'll Be Working On

• Volvo Penta marine engines.
• Nanni marine engines.
• Engine diagnostics and fault finding.
• Mechanical servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance.
• General marine mechanical systems across fleet. 

On-Call Support

During the boating season, you'll join a rotational on-call rota with the engineering team.

You'll be provided with a company phone to support customers experiencing technical issues. In many cases, problems can be resolved over the phone by talking customers through simple checks. However, where required, you'll launch a service boat and attend customers on the water to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues.

Additional on-call payments are provided, along with overtime pay for any additional hours worked.

Lagger - Thermal Insulation Engineer

Locations: Cornwall & Newton Abbot
Duration: Contract until the end of the year
Pay: Competitive TICA National Agreement Rates (dependent on experience and grade)

Our client is currently looking to recruit experienced Thermal Insulation Engineers (Laggers) to join their team on two prestigious, high-security projects in the South West and West Country.

This is an excellent opportunity to secure long-term contract work through to the end of the year, working on technically challenging projects within secure environments.

The Role

As a Thermal Insulation Engineer, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing insulation systems across mechanical services and pipework, ensuring installations meet the highest industry and safety standards.

Typical duties include:

• Installing thermal insulation to pipework, ductwork, vessels and mechanical systems.
• Measuring, cutting and fitting insulation materials.
• Installing protective cladding where required.
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings.
• Carrying out repairs and maintenance to existing insulation systems.
• Ensuring all work is completed safely and to specification.
• Working collaboratively with other trades and site management teams.

Requirements

To be considered, you should have:

• Previous experience as a Thermal Insulation Engineer/Lagger.
• A valid CSCS card (or relevant trade certification).
• Experience working on commercial, industrial or large-scale construction projects.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong health and safety awareness.

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of these projects, security clearance is essential.

Defence-Related Project – Cornwall

Candidates will be required to obtain or already hold SC (Security Check) Clearance.

High Security Prison Project – Newton Abbot

Candidates will be required to pass BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance before commencing work.

Shipwright – Yacht Refit & Repair

The Opportunity

A well-established specialist marine services provider is seeking an experienced Senior Shipwright to join its yacht refit and repair team.

This is a hands-on role working primarily on the maintenance, restoration, repair and refit of prestige sailing yachts. It would suit an accomplished shipwright who enjoys diagnosing problems, developing practical repair solutions and delivering high-quality craftsmanship across a variety of vessels.

The position is focused on refit, repair and fault-finding, rather than repetitive production boatbuilding. Projects will vary in scope and complexity, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to take ownership of work from initial assessment through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out complex shipwright, refit, repair and restoration work on prestige sailing yachts.
• Inspect vessels and assess structural, cosmetic and joinery-related defects.
• Diagnose faults and identify the underlying causes of damage, deterioration or water ingress.
• Recommend appropriate repair methods, materials and practical solutions.
• Plan and complete repair projects from initial assessment through to final finish.
• Undertake structural repairs to hulls, decks, bulkheads, floors, stringers and internal structures.
• Complete high-quality interior and exterior marine joinery work.
• Carry out laminating, composite repairs, bonding and fabrication using appropriate materials and techniques.
• Repair and replace damaged timber, composite and structural components.
• Work confidently across deck, hull, cockpit and interior areas.
• Interpret technical drawings, specifications and vessel construction details.
• Collaborate with engineers, electricians, riggers, painters and other marine specialists.
• Provide guidance and technical support to less-experienced team members where required.
• Assist with vessel lift-outs, launches and general yard operations.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used and any additional defects identified.

Skills and Experience

• Significant practical experience as a Shipwright, Boatbuilder or Marine Carpenter.
• Strong background in yacht refit, repair, restoration or maintenance.
• Experience diagnosing faults and developing repair solutions on existing vessels.
• Detailed knowledge of traditional and modern yacht construction methods.
• Strong structural repair experience across timber, GRP and composite vessels.
• Competence in laminating, composite repairs, bonding and fabrication.
• High-quality marine joinery and finishing skills.
• Experience working on sailing yachts, ideally prestige, performance or larger vessels.
• Ability to identify structural defects, water ingress, delamination, rot and other common vessel issues.
• Confidence working independently and taking ownership of technically challenging projects.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and repair plans.
• Strong knowledge of workshop tools, machinery, hand tools and power tools.
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in delivering a premium-quality finish.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively alongside multiple marine trades.
• A strong understanding of health and safety requirements in a marine yard environment.

A relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship in one of the following would be advantageous:

Marine Engineer

The Role

As a Marine Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Servicing, maintaining and repairing inboard and outboard engines.
• Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical and electrical faults on a range of marine engines and onboard systems.
• Installing, commissioning and maintaining marine equipment.
• Carrying out sea trials following repairs where required (training can be provided if necessary).
• Working both within the workshop and at local customer locations.
• Liaising with customers and colleagues to provide technical advice and updates on repairs.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A minimum of 3 years' experience as a Marine Engineer or in a similar marine engineering environment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience working on inboard and outboard engines.
• A proactive approach to problem solving and excellent attention to detail.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit engineering team.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• A full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Experience

Experience working with leading marine engine manufacturers such as Yanmar, Suzuki, Vetus, Volvo Penta, Mercury, Yamaha or similar would be highly advantageous, although not essential.
