Marine Engineer – Luxury Yacht Build

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Marine Engineer to join a high-end yacht build programme. This role will involve the preparation, build and installation of complex mechanical and engineering systems, ensuring all work is completed in line with technical drawings, specifications and marine best practice standards.

You will play a key role within the engineering team, working collaboratively with other trades to deliver exceptional quality across luxury yacht projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and install mechanical and engineering systems on luxury yachts in build

• Install and align engines, gearboxes and drive systems

• Carry out hydraulic, plumbing and HVAC installations

• Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings and specifications

• Collaborate with electrical, structural and fit-out teams to ensure smooth project delivery

• Support fault-finding, testing and commissioning activities

• Maintain high standards of health & safety and quality control

• Contribute to a “right first time” build culture

Knowledge & Technical Expertise

• Strong knowledge of marine mechanical systems including:

  • Hydraulics

  • Domestic & marine plumbing systems (fresh, grey & black water)

  • Air conditioning systems

  • Gas installations

  • Engine, gearbox and final drive systems

• Understanding of marine installation best practice

• Knowledge of GRP boat construction techniques

• Awareness of modern marine engineering technologies

• Good understanding of H&S regulations within a marine environment

Skills

• Ability to independently install and build engineering systems in recreational craft

• Competent in reading and interpreting technical drawings

• Confident using hand, power and bench-mounted tools

• Experience in metal fabrication, including TIG welding

• Comfortable working at height, in confined spaces and on uneven surfaces

• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding capability

Experience Required

• Proven experience in mechanical installations within yacht or recreational craft build

• Recent experience in a similar marine engineering role

• Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality workmanship to tight deadlines

Qualifications

• City & Guilds (minimum) or equivalent qualification in Marine or Mechanical Engineering

Tug Engineer

My client is continuing to grow its operations and is looking to recruit an experienced Tug Engineer to join the team on a permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a sea-going engineer who is looking to move into a land-based, harbour-focused role, while still remaining hands-on with marine operations. The role is primarily harbour based, with occasional work away from port supporting coastal towage and associated operations.

The Role

The Tug Engineer you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of our tug fleet.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing 24/7 engineering cover within a 40-hour working week to meet customer towage requirements

• Ensuring the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible operation of all mechanical and engineering systems on board

• Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance of machinery and equipment

• Making sound engineering decisions while working safely under pressure and in challenging marine environments

• Maintaining high standards of safety for all crew and operations

• Ordering machinery spares and engine room consumables as required

• Working closely with other crew members and shore-based teams, adhering to all operational and safety procedures

Working Pattern

• Permanent, land-based role (non-rotational)

• Standard 40-hour week

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• MCA Chief Engineer 3000kW (III/3)

• All required STCW short courses (including recent amendments)

• Comfortable working as part of a close-knit operational team

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Electrician to join our team on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for an electrician with previous dockyard or shipyard experience, looking for long-term stability, flexibility and the opportunity to work on a wide variety of marine projects.

The Role

As an Electrician at A&P Falmouth, you will be a key part of our operations, responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems on board vessels and within the dockyard facility.

Key responsibilities include:

• Installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems on marine vessels and within the dockyard

• Carrying out inspections, fault-finding and diagnostics to ensure systems are safe, compliant and fully operational

• Interpreting electrical drawings, schematics and technical specifications

• Planning and implementing electrical installations and repairs in line with project requirements

• Working collaboratively with engineers, project managers and other trades to deliver projects on time

About You

We’re looking for an electrician who brings strong marine or industrial experience and a professional, safety-focused approach.

Essential requirements:

• Completion of a recognised electrical apprenticeship or vocational qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3) or equivalent experience

• Previous experience working as an electrician in a dockyard or shipyard environment

• Strong understanding of electrical installation, maintenance and fault-finding

Desirable experience:

• Knowledge of marine electrical systems including wiring, lighting, communication systems, navigation equipment and power generation

• Experience working on board vessels or within marine engineering facilities

You will also demonstrate:

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

• High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Ability to work in confined spaces, at height and in outdoor environments
