As they continue to grow, they are looking for a Design for Manufacture Engineer to join their team and drive innovation in manufacturing processes and product design.
Purpose of the Role
As a Design for Manufacture Engineer, you will take the lead in improving manufacturing processes, focusing on joinery and furniture manufacturing techniques. Your role will involve working closely with both internal teams and external suppliers to ensure that products are not only easy to assemble but also cost-effective and high-quality. You will also be responsible for driving innovation in materials, manufacturing processes, and assembly techniques, ensuring that the products are produced efficiently while remaining competitive within the market.
Key Responsibilities
Design for Manufacture Leadership
- Lead and collaborate with the Head of Engineering and cross-functional teams to ensure new products are manufacturable, focusing on joinery and furniture assembly.
- Ensure new designs are technically feasible, cost-effective, and align with product launch timelines.
- Maintain high standards of product quality and functionality, delivering products that provide value to customers.
Innovation and Supply Chain Research
- Stay informed about the latest trends in furniture and joinery, utilizing this knowledge to inform decision-making and ensure products remain competitive.
- Research and implement new materials, manufacturing technologies, and techniques to enhance the product offering.
- Explore innovative manufacturing techniques to reduce costs and increase profit margins, especially for complex joinery.
- Collaborate with Procurement teams to optimize the supplier process and reduce manufacturing costs through better design and material selection.
- Work with the supply chain to ensure efficient component management and streamline the manufacturing process, including kitting and modular assembly.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work alongside product development engineers, CAD technicians, and production teams to integrate design and manufacturability seamlessly.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between product designers, production teams, and suppliers, ensuring smooth communication throughout the product development cycle.
- Ensure designs are modular and easy to assemble, simplifying the manufacturing process and reducing complexity.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Product Design, or related field (preferred).
- Significant experience in furniture manufacturing, particularly in joinery and assembly techniques.
- Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing technologies, and industry trends.
- Proven ability to collaborate with teams and suppliers to achieve manufacturability goals.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
