  • Design composite structures from concept through to manufacture

  • Perform first-principles structural calculations and support classification society compliance

  • Utilise structural spreadsheets, beam element analysis tools and in-house calculation methods

  • Design and develop tooling components with a focus on accuracy and repeatability

  • Review independent and internal survey reports and contribute to technical responses

  • Assist with the design and testing of material samples, commissioning testing and compiling technical reports

  • Attend production and project meetings to support ongoing improvements and contract variations

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of materials, processes and design standards

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of composite construction materials and methods, including:

    • Polyester, vinylester and epoxy resin systems

    • GRP and advanced composite laminates

    • Infusion processes (desirable)

  • Understanding of yacht structural systems and marine construction techniques

  • Awareness of classification society requirements and marine structural standards

  • Knowledge of supplier interaction and material selection (advantageous)

Skills

  • Proficient in 3D CAD modelling (Siemens NX advantageous, training available)

  • Competent using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel in particular)

  • Ability to translate structural calculations into clear, manufacturable drawings

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

  • Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with shop-floor teams

  • Good time management and ability to meet project deadlines

Experience Required

  • 2–5 years’ experience in marine composite structural design

  • Experience gained within a boatyard, yacht production environment or engineering consultancy

  • Strong orientation towards production-ready design and practical application

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or similar

  • Relevant composite or marine engineering experience essential

Personal Attributes

  • High attention to detail and quality-driven mindset

  • Honest, professional and team-oriented approach

  • Positive and proactive attitude

  • Willingness to travel occasionally for business requirements

Additional Information

  • Opportunity to develop within a specialist marine engineering environment

  • Training provided in internal systems, structural tools and modelling software

  • Ability to travel to other UK sites when required
