Structural Engineer – Composites (Marine)
The Role
We are seeking a talented Structural Engineer – Composites to join a specialist engineering team supporting the design and production of high-performance yachts.
This role combines structural design, composite engineering and production support. You will be involved from concept through to calculation, detailed design and shop-floor implementation, ensuring structural components are robust, compliant and manufacturable.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with 2–5 years’ marine composite experience who is looking to develop within a collaborative and technically driven environment.
Key Responsibilities

Provide structural engineering support to yachts in build, liaising closely with production teams

Produce 3D assembly models and detailed production drawings for new structural components

Design composite structures from concept through to manufacture

Perform first-principles structural calculations and support classification society compliance

Utilise structural spreadsheets, beam element analysis tools and in-house calculation methods

Design and develop tooling components with a focus on accuracy and repeatability
-
Review independent and internal survey reports and contribute to technical responses

Assist with the design and testing of material samples, commissioning testing and compiling technical reports

Attend production and project meetings to support ongoing improvements and contract variations

Contribute to continuous improvement of materials, processes and design standards
Technical Knowledge

Strong understanding of composite construction materials and methods, including:
-
Polyester, vinylester and epoxy resin systems
-
GRP and advanced composite laminates
-
Infusion processes (desirable)
-

Understanding of yacht structural systems and marine construction techniques
-
Awareness of classification society requirements and marine structural standards
-
Knowledge of supplier interaction and material selection (advantageous)
Skills
-
Proficient in 3D CAD modelling (Siemens NX advantageous, training available)

Competent using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel in particular)

Ability to translate structural calculations into clear, manufacturable drawings

Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with shop-floor teams

Good time management and ability to meet project deadlines
Experience Required
-
2–5 years’ experience in marine composite structural design
-
Experience gained within a boatyard, yacht production environment or engineering consultancy
-
Strong orientation towards production-ready design and practical application
Qualifications
-
Degree qualified in Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or similar

Relevant composite or marine engineering experience essential
